About the Thrift Store
When you awoke this morning, did you expect to be homeless, jobless, ill or seriously injured by the end of the day? Neither did the hundreds of men, women and children that God leads to the Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry each year. But because of tragic life circumstances, many in our community need a “helping hand.”

The Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry has been a part of the Council Bluffs community for over thirty years. The Thrift Store and Food Pantry are part of the services offered by Manti Social Services Corporation, a not-for-profit agency that meets the needs of disadvantaged individuals and families in the Pottawattamie County area. The Corporation is managed by a fifteen-member Board of Directors, who are sustained by a vote at the Prairie Bluffs Mission Center Conference of the Community of Christ. Over 1500 community members use the services of the Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry every year.
Over $100,000 is given each year in free food/clothing/household items to needy families in the community by the Thrift Store and Food Pantry. The Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry is an active member of the “Council Bluffs Food Pantry Association”
How Can I Help?
Food
The Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry provides food to over 1,000 families each year. In addition, we help prepare and distribute food to 350 families through the annual Christmas Basket program. But the needs of the food pantry grow each month as more and more people experience job layoffs. Each week we count on our contributors to donate food and or cash offerings to be used in meeting this community need.

Clothing
When families lose their homes to fire or storm, they are left with only the clothes on their backs. Others, because of the loss of employment, cannot afford to buy the clothes they need to look for a new job, or for their children to wear to school. Your generous offering of clothes in good condition and in all sizes are literally a God-send to these families and individuals.
Volunteering
The Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry needs dependable volunteers each workday to help our clients as cashiers or with unloading and storing food, clothing and furniture donations. This is an opportunity for you to meet the people we serve personally, and to see first-hand the needs that challenge their lives.
Financial Contributions
The Community of Christ Thrift Store and Food Pantry has an annual budget of close to $150,000.00 to support the ministries that it offers. Of this budget, $20,000.00 is projected to be raised through contributions by “Friends of the Thrift Store and Food Pantry.” Your annual financial gift of $25, $50, or $100 will help us to meet our fund-raising goal, and help us to continue to offer the ministries listed in this brochure. We hope that you will consider becoming a “Friend of the Thrift Store and Food Pantry,” and complete the registration form today!
Consumer Notice: The I-Count Network Iowa’s Outcomes and Universal Needs Toolkit
This Agency receives funding from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to provide services for homeless and near homeless individuals and their families. A requirement of this funding is that the Agency participates in the I-COUNT Network, which collects basic information about clients receiving services from this Agency. This requirement was enacted in order to get a more accurate count of individuals and families who are homeless and to identify the need for different services.
We only collect information that we consider to be appropriate. The collection and use of all personal information is guided by strict standards of confidentiality. A copy of our Privacy Notice describing our privacy practice is available to all consumers upon request.
You do have the ability to share your personal information with other area agencies that participate in the network by completing a “Release of Information” form. This will allow those agencies to work in a cooperative manner to provide you with efficient and effective services.
